President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) Sergiy Tomilenko welcomed Olha Chervakova, who heads the relations department with state authorities at Suspilne Movlennia [Public Broadcasting], at the Union’s office.
“We continued talking about strategic matters — the independence of the Public Broadcasting, the preservation of independent media and journalism in Ukraine, as well as the need for our international partners to pay more attention to these issues,” says Sergiy Tomilenko. “Presented the NUJU priority: the physical safety of journalists through the network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers (JSC), as well as the program of revival and support for frontline newspapers – where the printed word (and Ukrainian Radio) often remains the only channel of truthful information.»
Separately, Sergiy Tomilenko thanked Olha for her many years of principled position. Even as a people’s deputy and member of a specialized committee, she reacted without delay to every case of violation of freedom of speech. Today, within the Suspilne team, Olha consistently defends freedoms and maintains contact with state institutions to ensure that the interests of society and the journalistic community are heard.
