On the initiative of the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), a working online meeting was held with colleagues from the subordinate Rivne and Volyn Regions.

JSC coordinator Viktoriya Plakhta, JSC assistant Bohdana Zasidko, heads of the Rivne and Volyn regional organizations of the NUJU Dmytro Tarasiuk and Mykhailo Savchak, and journalists-representatives of different print media attended it.

Viktoriya Plakhta introduced her colleagues to the JSC‘s work, social projects that are implemented to help journalists in their profession, migrant media workers and their families, and also drew attention to international cooperation with Italian volunteers and charitable organizations. The coordinator of the JSC called on the media representatives of the subordinate regions to actively communicate and cooperate. She suggested that colleagues submit to the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC of the NUJU information about journalists who need help with various issues or solving some problems.

“In this difficult time, we journalists must unite to help and support those who need it. We should communicate more often and hold such online meetings in order to know everyone’s problems and be able to react in time,” said Viktoriya Plakhta.

Bohdana Zasidko informed the participants of the meeting, in particular, about the thematic events, trainings, webinars, and consultations held in the co-working space of the JSC with the participation of specialists and invited colleagues to join them online.

Support for print media was among a number of important issues discussed during the online meeting. This is a nationwide problem. As the head of the Rivne regional organization of the NUJU, Dmytro Tarasiuk, noted, the Ukrposhta state-run postal service, with its pricing policy and poor-quality delivery, is causing newspapers to be destroyed. He noted that last year and at the beginning of this year, some printed publications in the Rivne Region had already ceased to exist.

“The main thing today is to help journalists who find themselves in difficult life circumstances and to save the not-yet-dead local print publications. We need a real program of support for print media at the all-Ukrainian level and the opportunity to participate in the implementation of such a program of the NUJU Journalistic Solidarity Centers,” Mykhailo Savchak, the head of the Volyn regional organization of the NUJU, emphasized during the exchange of views.

The participants in the meeting outlined a number of joint initiatives.

Call the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC at 066 677 0726 (Viktoriya Plakhta, the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC coordinator). The Center’s address is 25 Sichovykh Striltsiv Street.
