The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), with the support of Reporters Without Borders, invites journalists, freelancers, and media workers to participate in the specialized training titled Work Of Journalists In Conditions Of Radiation Danger.

The training will take place offline in Zaporizhzhia on September 5, 2023. After successfully completing the training, each participant will receive a specialized set of protective equipment based on the DuPont TYCHEM 6000F coverall.

The number of participants is limited! Registration continues until August 31, 2023, via the link: https://forms.gle/HR6qN3KrMvGW2NuCA

Selected participants will receive a confirmation letter indicating the exact time and place of the event.

For selected participants from other cities, the organizers provide fare compensation.

Training participants will learn about the following aspects:

  1. Radiation threat. Characteristics, properties, danger.

  1. Personal safety measures for journalists in radiation danger zones.

  1. Means of personal protection in the zone of radiation contamination.

  1. Protective costumes and their use.

  1. Specifics of actions in the zone of radiation contamination.

  1. Journalists work in the conditions of man-made disasters.

Also, practical consolidation of acquired skills will be carried out with the help of man-made disaster simulation!

Why is this important?

Russian terrorists have repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons against Ukrainians. In addition, the occupiers have turned the Zaporizhzhia NPP territory into a military base and are conducting dangerous activities in its territory using nuclear reactors. In the conditions of the increased threat of radiation pollution, journalists, other media workers, and freelancers who continue to work in Ukraine should know how to act correctly in radiation danger zones in order to save their lives and minimize harm to health.

Coaches:

Ivan Zdorovets is an expert on civil protection issues; organizer of training programs on civil safety measures during man-made disasters and in the war zone; participant of international programs for cleaning “contaminated” territories in Asian countries; founder of the VOHNYK educational and training center; and commander of the evacuation and rescue squad.

Oleksandr Pidopryhora is a specialist in missile and ballistic weapons; and a chemical and radiation protection instructor at the VOHNYK educational and training center.

Artem Shelomitskyi is a leading engineer of Zaporizhzhia NPP’s quality service; a consultant on issues of radiation protection and pollution; cooperates with law enforcement agencies and rescue services.

Tetiana Uralova is a military journalist; an expert on the safety of journalists; has 29 years of experience in journalism.

Organizer: the NUJU with the support of Reporters Without Borders.
