The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine provided a camera to the Holos Ukrainy (Voice of Ukraine) correspondent Andrii Nesterenko, who, after the liberation of the Kyiv Region, was one of the first to film the town of Bucha. The Union’s technical assistance is possible thanks to the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany in partnership with the Academy of Ukrainian Press.
“Andriy is an example of a true journalist. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Andriy took up residence in the editorial office because his Bucha was occupied. He lived for more than a month in the basement of the editorial office, where the newsroom and places to sleep were arranged,” said Lina Kushch, the First Secretary of the NUJU, during the presentation.
Ms. Lina also added that Andriy is a native Crimean, so the Union sincerely hopes that the journalist will be able to record the liberation of Crimea with the new camera.
“Thank you very much! I am waiting for Crimea. I haven’t been there for 9 years and I really want to go back,” Nesterenko said in response.
