At the request of the Dnipro Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), all journalists of the Dnipropetrovsk Region whose homes were damaged by shelling received financial assistance from the NUJU and its international partners.
Although the city of Dnipro is located several kilometers from the front line, the city and the region are under constant shelling. People are injured, and buildings are destroyed. Among the victims are journalists and editors.
“After each missile attack on the Dnipropetrovsk Region, we first of all clarify whether everything is in order with the media,” says Nataliya Nazarova, the coordinator of the NUJU‘s Dnipro JSC. “Unfortunately, disaster does not avoid our colleagues. As a result of the shelling, windows were broken, roofs were pierced… The equipment of the Nikopol radio station, where a rocket hit the building, was seriously damaged. We respond to every case, support, and help everyone whenever possible.”
Media representatives from Dnipro, Pavlohrad, Marhanets, Nikopol, Apostolove, and Kryvyi Rih are among the media workers whose homes were damaged by shelling and who, at the request of the NUJU JSC, received financial assistance from the Union and its international partners.
“The money that my colleague and I received from the JSC at that time went to the top priority needs – we had to repair the damaged roof and replace the broken windows. By the way, the Union was the only source of help! No one else. We never received anything from the city authorities,” said Viktoriya Mykhalchenko, the editor of the Apostolivski Novyny [Apostolove News] newspaper.
The Dnipro JSC also works in conditions of increased risk. Enemy rockets have already hit three times, literally a block away from the House of Journalists.
As earlier reported, the NUJU Dnipro JSC provides journalists with organizational, technical, and consulting assistance and conducts various activities, training sessions, and professional meetings. You can come here to work and also take advantage of the free rental of high-quality personal protective equipment for work in hot spots.
Call the Dnipro JSC at 050 919 8479 (Nataliya Nazarova, the Dnipro JSC coordinator). The Center’s address is 8 Starokozatska Street.
