The new head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (UN HRMMU), Danielle Bell, met with representatives of Ukrainian civil society organizations, including the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).

The head of the mission thanked the human rights defenders for their persistent and risky work since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion.

“You are the voice of the people in Ukraine,” said the head of the mission.

The first secretary of NUJU, Lina Kushch, who took part in the meeting, talked about the main risks for journalists while working in Ukraine.

“According to our Union and the International Federation of Journalists, 15 media workers died while performing their professional duties in the war zone. We record cases of injuries, destruction of newsrooms and houses of journalists, draw attention to journalists in captivity,” said the representative of the Union.

The data that the NUJU transmits to the mission helps in the preparation of the following report on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
