NUJU First Secretary Lina Kushch meets with graduates of Ivano-Frankivsk School of Journalism

The tenth graduation ceremony of the School of Journalism of the Ivano-Frankivsk branch of the Union took place on Vyshyvanka Day [aka Embroidered Shirt Day]. Seventeen students received School graduation certificates. Among the graduates are six internally displaced high-School graduates and students.

Over the course of the academic year, students mastered topics such as print and Internet publishing, the work of a press secretary, the basics of television, radio, photojournalism, etc. In addition, the students had practical classes at the TV and radio companies Suspilne.Ivano-Frankivsk, RAI, Halychyna, Vezha, and the online publication Holos-Info. The students participated in over 20 events held by the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC).

Congratulating the students of the School on the successful completion of the academic year, the NUJU First Secretary Lina Kushch noted:

“I know how professional the approach is when preparing the curriculum, so I am thrilled that future journalists have such an additional opportunity for professional training. I know how many specialists have gone through this School, so I have no doubt that there are future colleagues among you. For my part, I want to say that the Union is always ready to support young media workers, which it has been doing constantly and especially during the last year.

The graduates were also congratulated and presented with documents on the completion of the School by the executive secretary of the regional journalistic unit/coordinator of the Journalists’ Solidarity Center, Viktoriya Plakhta; own correspondent of the Visti… and Poradnytsia newspapers in the western region of Ukraine/ board member and secretary of the regional Union of journalists, Mykhailo Mazur; and associate professor of the Department of Journalism of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University/coordinator of the School Halyna Prystai.

“For a journalist, combining theory and practice is very important. Therefore, in the program of classes of the School, we provided for the holding of various master classes based on our leading mass media, where you were able to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice. This will contribute to a better mastering of the future profession, the ability to work in a team, communicate effectively and find optimal ways to solve non-standard industrial situations,” noted the founder of the School, Honored Journalist of Ukraine Viktoriya Plakhta.

As earlier reported, the Journalists’ Solidarity Centers is an initiative of the NUJU implemented with the support of the International and European Federations of Journalists and UNESCO. The initiative is designated to help media representatives working in Ukraine during the war. The Centers operate in Kyiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro and provide journalists with organizational, technical, legal, psychological, and other types of assistance.
