Krynychany town newspaper, Novi Rubezhi, has celebrated its 84th anniversary. As usual, on working days, another issue of the weekly magazine was prepared. The former district in what is now the front-line Dnipropetrovsk Region has eight columns. Only a few issues, after a short break in work related to the beginning of the war, were released in a brief format, and later, the newspaper returned to its former standards. However, the topics of the publication have changed…
Currently, the newsroom consists of three employees. This small team is headed by Halyna Lytovchenko. She has been in the newspaper for over 40 years, 18 of which she has worked as the editor-in-chief. She already deserves a great rest but cannot leave the newspaper, even in such a difficult time. Over 20 years of journalistic experience behind the shoulders of Olena Mushyk and Nataliya Dolhikh. In the conditions of the war, the female staff of the newspaper managed to save the publication and do everything to quickly inform their compatriots about life in the communities, the region, and important events of the country and the world.
“Despite the war disaster and other difficulties – political, economic, reformation – our newspaper is published. True, it does not always reach subscribers in a timely manner due to poor delivery (there are many complaints about postal services!), but it still reaches rural readers. As a greeting from a peaceful life. As a symbol of the fact that we do not give up, we are fighting on the information front with our small female team,” says Halyna Lytovchenko.
Today, the main problem for Krynychany media representatives is the organization and implementation of a subscription campaign. After all, Ukrposhta has also increased the tariffs for its services, so the cost of the subscription has also increased. Whether the publication will be able to maintain its circulation is very much hoped for. They are looking for all kinds of reserves for promptly informing the readership and actively updating the news feed on the website and social networks. They also publish an electronic version of the newspaper, which people receive even abroad. A lot of attention is paid to stories about Ukrainian defenders at the front bringing victory closer to the rear, about countrymen-heroes who gave the most precious thing for the independence of Ukraine – their lives.
The staff of the newspaper became a true friend, adviser, and like-minded person of the Journalists’ Solidarity Center of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). Colleagues participate in events, do not stand aside from heated discussions, and share their experiences and opinions.
“We learn, develop, gain new experience, participate in grant competitions,” adds Nataliya Dolhikh. “We feel significant support from the NUJU, the Dnipro Journalists’ Solidarity Center. Thanks to them, we have a new powerful laptop – it is the most necessary equipment for our newsroom today. To be honest, we can’t afford to update the equipment on our own these days. Therefore, the international support of media colleagues adds a double incentive to work further.”
