“New technology opens up new horizons,” journalist from Dnipro Kostiantyn Shrub

A new Canon R10 instead of a worn 15-year-old camera: the journalist of the city site Gorod.dp.ua (Dnipro), Kostiantyn Shrub, shared his impressions of the new equipment received with the assistance of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).

“Unfortunately, in the last few years, as a journalist on the city website, I experienced significant problems with illustrating my daily reports,” Kostiantyn says. “Our website has not had a separate photojournalist for a long time; each journalist illustrates his materials. But I only had an old, about 15-year-old Nikon camera at my disposal, which had already exhausted its resource a long time ago. Unfortunately, it was repeatedly under repair and could fail at any moment, which systematically happened in my practice. As a result, after such incidents, the work was interrupted. The site did not have the financial means to purchase a new device. Therefore, I am very grateful to our Union of Journalists for such valuable technical support: the Canon R10 camera.”

According to Kostiantyn Shrub, this camera is of a completely different, new level. It is already being used; the journalist prepares his reports using it. At the same time, he is convinced of how many new opportunities have appeared in new photo technology.

Kostiantyn added that the work of a modern journalist is unthinkable without the support of technical means – a computer, a camera, a smartphone, etc. Their stable work guarantees the prompt and high-quality work of a journalist.

As earlier reported, during a working visit to Dnipro, NUJU President Sergiy Tomilenko visited the Journalists’ Solidarity Center there, met with local media representatives, and handed over laptops, cameras, sleeping bags, and high-capacity power banks to his colleagues. Such technical strengthening of newsrooms became possible thanks to the close cooperation of the NUJU with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
