The website, social media pages, and logo of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) have been included in the national list of extremist content. It is noteworthy that the name of the public organization was misspelled in the decision.
This follows from a statement by the BAJ.
Now people in Belarus can be held administratively liable for keeping any objects or texts with the BAJ logo. However, the logo can be found on multiple official documents of the journalist organization in dozens of state institutions and agencies, in archives, on notebooks, in the Abazhur magazine, which used to be published by BAJ, and so on.
The new attacks on BAJ are undoubtedly a continuation of the political pressure on the organization and independent journalists for their work.
BAJ called on its fellow journalists in Belarus to remove all items bearing the organization’s logo from their homes and offices.
The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) expresses solidarity with Belarusian colleagues and calls on the official authorities in Belarus to stop the pressure on freedom of speech and journalistic organizations in this country.
