The Kia Sorento SUV, purchased with the funds collected by journalists, was today transferred to colleagues in uniform as an asset of the Dnipro regional organization of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). The keys to the car were given to Roman Chop from the press group of the Soledar group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

“We bought this off-road vehicle in Poland, returning after participating in important journalistic events in Paris and Brussels,” says Sergiy Tomilenko, head of the NUJU. “The first to help with the organizational issues of transporting a car to Kyiv was the active member of the Lviv regional organization of the NUJU (chairman – Yaroslav Klymovych), and today the active member of the Dnipropetrovsk Union of Journalists (chairman – Oleksii Kovalchuk) is handing over a car for the front.”

Before handing over the car to the AFU, it was inspected and repaired, the heating system was updated, and winter tires were installed.

“Initiating the collection, we wanted civilian journalists to help their military colleagues: press officers are an important source of information for the mass media; they make the work of civilian journalists as safe as possible,” emphasizes Sergiy Tomilenko.

“Cars play a huge role in organizing the work of military press services,” emphasized the head of the press service of the Eastern Group of the AFU, Illia Yevlash, during a meeting with Sergiy Tomilenko in Kyiv. “This is especially important in the hottest spots of the front, such as the Bakhmut Axis. Thanks to the received off-road vehicle, the work of press officers will become more qualitative both in the line of press services and in interaction with journalists: press officers will be able to organize better access for civilian journalists to areas closer to the front line. This will have a positive effect on the quantity and quality of materials. Therefore, we are very grateful to everyone who joined the gathering! We hope that this car will serve for a long time at the front!”

The NUJU had already handed over a minibus, walkie-talkies, and various journalistic equipment to military colleagues. In particular, Roman Chop was given a camera with which he took pictures on the Bakhmut Axis, which became famous all over the world. It is noteworthy that it was Roman who got the keys to the SUV!

The collection of funds for the purchase of the car was carried out by the NUJU together with the Ukrainian Soul charity fund. The NUJU sincerely thanks Andrii Pavlovskyi, the director of the Ukrainian Soul charity fund and numerous donors, for their support. First of all, to journalists and editors from Kyiv and the regions, members of the Board and Secretariat of the NUJU, assets of regional organizations of the Union, press officers themselves, and everyone who donated funds for this important journalistic collection for the AFU. In total, the cost of the car, including repairs and refueling, amounted to UAH 200,000.

For effective informational support, the Union expresses its sincere gratitude to colleagues from the Glavcom news agency, Ukrainian News, Priamyi TV channel, the Telegraf publication, partners of NUJU – lawyers of the capital company IBC Legal Services (managing partner Mykhailo Kocherov), the Academy of the Ukrainian Press, the well-known young volunteer Tetiana Portianko, financial broker Oleksandr Hrytsyk, secretary of the NUJU Vitalii Holubev. The Union also thanked the publishing house OGO, Ukraine Youth, Vysokyi Zamok, Rayon.in.ua news agency, Gard.City publication, editors of newspapers from the de-occupied and front-line territories, in particular Anatolii Zhupyna (Novyi Den, Kherson), Pavlo Smovzh (Trybuna Pratsi, Ivankiv), Oleksandr Kulbaka (Karachun, Visti, Sloviyansk), Yevhen Khrypun (Mezhivskyi Meridian, Mezhova) and many, many others.

We continue to volunteer for the front, for Victory! Journalists Are Important! Glory to Ukraine!
