Journalist from the Kherson Region and editor of Novakahovka.city, Oleksandr Hunko, who suffered the horrors of russian captivity, is currently in the hospital and needs help.

On January 31, the Kyiv ambulance took him to the hospital in a pre-infarct condition. He underwent an emergency operation, is undergoing rehabilitation, and is preparing for the next operation.

This requires a considerable amount of UAH 60,000. Relatives are collecting the money, and the NUJU has also stepped in – documents for assistance have already been handed over to the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center, whose area of responsibility is the Kherson Region.

Since the day of the occupation of Nova Kakhovka, Oleksandr Hunko and his team have not stopped the activity of the Novakahovka.city website.

“Readers learned about the news in the city – those who went to the controlled territories of Ukraine and abroad. The editorial team also consisted of like-minded people who remained in the occupation and left for the controlled territory of Ukraine or abroad. Thanks to this, it was possible to support the work of the site from different points, which is still happening,” the publication notes.

But the editor ended up in russian jails and suffered torture. Later, Oleksandr and his family managed to leave the occupation. Already in Kyiv, he wrote and published the book called Poklyk Do Spasu, which contains more than 200 poems about the war.

Oleksandr is optimistic even now.

“Don’t worry, everything is fine; if I’m sick, I recover quickly,” says Oleksandr from the hospital bed.

You can help Oleksandr Hunko by sending funds to the card of his wife, Tamara Dzhurabayeva: 5168 7456 1500 8031.
