Within the framework of the Partnership for Victory project of the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) in partnership with the Department of Information of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archdiocese of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (UGCC), the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, thanks to the help and support of the volunteers of the Anteas Alessandria association, the communities of the UGCC of Turin and Ancona (Italy) seriously ill children from Ukraine receive free treatment in leading Italian clinics.
During the meeting of the project partners with Olha from Vinnytsia and her seriously ill 12-year-old daughter Daryna, they discussed the issue of their moving to Italy and conducting an additional examination for the child there.
As the girl’s mother said, her daughter’s health problems began in November 2022. After treatment in Vinnytsia, where the family lives, Daryna fully recovered in August 2023.
“We were happy because the child began to live a normal life. But in January 2024, the test results deteriorated sharply. They did additional examinations, and it turned out that a relapse had occurred. No one can say why this happened. Our doctor, Tetiana Korol, explained that a bone marrow transplant should be done. In despair, I did not know what to do, where to seek help… First of all, I turned to the doctor who treated Daryna. She helped, and we contacted Ms. Uliyana Stashko and Father Ivan Stefurak in Ivano-Frankivsk. I am very grateful to all the partners of the project – doctors, Italian volunteers, employees of the Journalists’ Solidarity Center – everyone who joined in helping our family, our Daryna. Special thanks to Father Ivan Stefurak. He is a man of incredible soul! Honestly, I did not believe that someone would respond to help us; I did not believe that such a thing could happen,” said the mother of a seriously ill girl.
Uliyana Stashko, an anesthesiologist at the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, board member of the Trustees of the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, co-founder of the Dobrochyntsi Foundation, said that the mother and the girl are going to Turin, where the doctors in the Italian clinic will additionally examine the child and determine further treatment tactics.
“12-year-old Daryna needs a bone marrow transplant. After some tests, it was found out that family donors are not suitable. Now, the girl, accompanied by her mother, is going to a clinic in the Italian city of Turin for further examination and treatment. We will maintain constant contact with them. I hope everything will be fine and Daryna will fully recover,” said Uliyana Stashko.
Thanks to the partnership of the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center with the Department of Information of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archdiocese of the UGCC, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, the help and support of the volunteers of the Anteas Alessandria association, the communities of the UGCC of the cities of Turin and Ancona, two people are currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Italy seriously ill children from the Ivano-Frankivsk Region – 14 and 10 years old.
