The Italian National Press Federation (FNSI), on the initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), allocated financial assistance to the family of the Ukrainian fixer Bohdan Bitik, who was killed near Kherson on April 26, 2023, while accompanying journalist of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Corrado Zunino.
“I am very grateful that the journalists from Italy did not forget about my son and support our family,” Bohdan‘s mother, Iryna Bitik, said in a comment to NUJU. “Grateful to everyone who took part in this, who remembers Bohdan and honors his memory.”
La Repubblica newsroom also allocated a significant am to Bohdan Bitik‘s family.
The NUJU met with great approval and gratitude the news that Italian colleagues allocated financial aid to the family of Bohdan Bitik. The NUJU highly appreciates the expressions of solidarity of the international journalistic community with Ukrainian media workers.
As earlier reported, polyglot linguist Bohdan Bitik returned to Ukraine at the beginning of 2022 after 21 years spent in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. At the beginning of the war, he volunteered, delivering lunches to Ukrainian soldiers defending Kyiv, so he started helping foreign journalists. He was killed by a Russian sniper’s bullet near Kherson near the Antonivskyi Bridge. Italian journalist Corrado Zunino, who Bohdan accompanied, was also wounded.
