Iryna Danylovych, a Crimean citizen journalist and human rights activist illegally imprisoned by russia, is being subjected to systematic cruel treatment in a penal colony in the territory of the russian federation. This was reported by the Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Crimea, citing Iryna‘s sister Olha Novitska.
According to Novitska, the administration of the institution ignores medical recommendations regarding her sister’s health and creates conditions that cause her physical suffering. In particular, this involves the deliberate use of loud sound for a long time, despite the recorded restrictions due to Danylovych‘s hearing problems.
Earlier, Iryna Danylovych herself reported the use of so-called “traceless torture” on prisoners, including exposure to bright light and loud noise. However, the alleged “inspection” of the colony conducted after this did not reveal any violations.
As earlier reported, Iryna Danilovich was kidnapped by FSB officers in 2022 in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. She was subsequently illegally convicted on trumped-up charges of allegedly “possession of an improvised explosive device” and sentenced to 6 years and 11 months in prison.
While in pre-trial detention, she was denied proper medical care for a long time, which resulted in hearing loss in one ear. She still does not receive the necessary treatment.
Such actions constitute a gross violation of international humanitarian law and human rights and require an appropriate international response.
