On the occasion of the professional holiday, Ukrainian journalists were congratulated by the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU)/Colonel-General, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

He emphasized the vital contribution of journalists to the struggle on the information front and the special role of local media workers in the front-line and de-occupied territories – there, in the absence of electricity and the Internet, local newspapers are often the only source of vital information.

Here follows the text of Colonel-General Syrskyi’s greeting:

Dear journalists!

On the occasion of your professional holiday, I want to thank you for your significant contribution to the future victory of Ukraine.

The path of a journalist is complicated and very responsible. During the war, journalists risk their lives to show the world the truth about the fighting.

The information front is no less important battlefield than tank battles or artillery duels. On this front, the enemy is also conducting an information offensive aimed at spreading lies and mistrust.

Your fight is a fight for people’s minds and hearts. It is a struggle for truth against lies, misinformation, and changing concepts.

Your contribution to the fight on the information front is significant. Thanks to your hard and dangerous work, the world sees the atrocities of the Russian army against the civilian population, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the violation of all norms of international humanitarian law.

Support of Ukraine by the international community, provision of modern weapons, and training of Ukrainian servicemen abroad is the result of your high-quality, daily work on the information front.

Local media journalists in the front-line and de-occupied territories, who are often the only source of vital information in the absence of electricity and the Internet, are especially admired and respected.

Unfortunately, there are also losses among journalists. We sincerely appreciate and remember all those who gave their lives in the fight for truth and justice in this terrible war.

Accept my most sincere congratulations on the occasion of Journalist’s Day. I wish you creative inspiration in your important work! I wish an article called Victory of Ukraine to appear in your publications!

Happy holiday to you!

Glory to Ukraine!

AFU Ground Forces Commander

Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi
