German publication, Süddeutsche Zeitung, publishes a detailed report about the combat days of the 65th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which is defending the area of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia Region.
The material was prepared by journalists Florian Hassel and Friedrich Bungert, risking their own lives to reveal the truth about the war. The report reveals in detail the difficult conditions in which the Ukrainian defenders are: constant shelling, lack of personnel, and outdated equipment. Special attention is paid to the heroism of Ukrainian soldiers who, despite all the difficulties, continue to restrain the enemy.
“Almost none of those I started with here is left alive. And while the russians are constantly sending new equipment and people here, we, despite our losses, receive few reinforcements,” says the main character of the report, Captain Mykhailo, with the callsign “Saigon.”
An important role in the preparation of the material was played by the press officer of the 65th Brigade, Serhii Skibchyk, who helped journalists work safely in the war zone and organized their communication with military personnel. The organization of the trip of German journalists to the frontline was carried out by Ukrainian military veteran/executive director of the Academy of Ukrainian Press, Andrii Kovalenko.
The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) highly appreciates the professionalism and courage of both German colleagues and Ukrainian military journalists who risk their lives every day while working on the front lines. This report is a vivid example of the importance of independent journalism in covering the events of the war and bringing the truth to the world community.
