Anastasiya Volkova, a correspondent of the FREEDOM TV channel from Luhansk, was killed in a road accident in Sloviyansk on May 30.
Anastasiya is known for her fearless reports, which she made until the last from Rubizhne, Sievierodonetsk, and Lysychansk in 2022.
Therefore, she worked on materials about the Ukrainian military in the Kharkiv Region and Donetsk Region. When the Defense Forces liberated the first settlements of the Luhansk Region, Anastasiya immediately returned to work in her native land.
I dreamed of making a report from liberated Luhansk…
Anastasiya Volkova was born in the city of Shchastia, Luhansk Region, and graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. She worked on the LOT TV channel of the Luhansk regional television and radio company. After the reform she continued her work in the regional directorate of Suspilne. Since 2018, she has been a military correspondent for the Ukrainian state foreign broadcasting channels. In June 2022, she was awarded the Order of Merit III degree.
“I was born and raised in Luhansk and lost my native home. So, professional activity is everything for me. For now, this is the meaning of my life. And when I can visit my native land for work, my heart is filled with a sense of pain and a desire to do more to highlight the disaster that russia has brought to Ukraine, to highlight the crimes of russian troops. I really want to see my native home, which I haven’t seen since 2014, but I also want everyone to understand what price Ukrainians pay every day of this liberation struggle,” Dim quotes Anastasiya Volkova.
According to the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, a tragic accident took the life of a 31-year-old journalist. Crossing the road, she stopped at the intersection when two cars collided in front of her, one of which was thrown onto Anastasiya.
The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) expresses its sincere condolences to the relatives, friends, colleagues, and friends of the deceased. Eternal memory!
