Fate of Crimean captive journalists discussed at 1st Crimean Week in Brussels

At the first Crimean Week in Brussels, participants discussed the fate of the Crimean captive journalists. The event featured a photo exhibition and book presentation highlighting the struggles of citizen journalists in the occupied Crimea.

Frontline Defenders representative Veronika Lapina emphasized their vital role in documenting the truth under occupation. Diplomat Oksana Diakun highlighted the harsh conditions for over 220 political prisoners, including 137 Crimean Tatars.

 

 

 

 

nariman dzhelyal 768x512 1Crimean politician Nariman Celal shared personal anecdotes about citizen journalism under occupation and stressed its ongoing importance despite severe repression. Olha Skrypnyk called for international efforts to free detained journalists. The event underscored the need for global support to address human rights violations in Crimea.

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) urged continuous attention to the plight of captive journalists and called for efforts to secure their release.
