Brendan Molloy, a teacher from Ireland, implements the English Speaking Club project for the journalistic community in Ukraine in cooperation with the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). Classes on learning and practicing English for media professionals are free and take place online. Brendan Molloy volunteers and actively helps Ukrainians who have found refuge in Ireland. So, the meeting of Ivano-Frankivsk media people with Brendan Molloy in the co-working space of the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the NUJU was interesting. The meeting was attended by students of the English Speaking Club, NUJU members, and employees of the JSC.

Brendan Molloy talked about himself and his country. He expressed support for the Ukrainian people in the fight against the enemy. He noted that his acquaintance with Ukraine and cooperation began in 2020 with the first online English language courses for Ukrainians. This work continues despite the war.

According to him, the vast majority of his students in Ukraine are young people. The English Speaking Club and the journalistic community also actively joined the project. Since March 2024, when the project started, several classes have already taken place.

He says that it is very important for as many Ukrainian journalists as possible to speak English and be able to convey to the international community the situation in which they live every day of the war.

The teacher also admitted that every trip to Ukraine is a certain experience for him, and meetings with his students are special. By the way, Brendan Molloy visited our country for the second time during the war.

The coordinator of the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC, Viktoriya Plakhta, thanked Brendan Molloy for his visit to the Center and expressed hope for the assistance of the guest in establishing cooperation with Irish journalists.

Liliana Khomyshyn, a well-known Carpathian media woman, head of the Youth Council of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional union of journalists, and a participant in the English Speaking Club project, moderated the meeting and provided translation.

Call the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC at 066 677 0726 (Viktoriya Plakhta, the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC coordinator). The Center’s address is 25 Sichovykh Striltsiv Street.
