In 2023, the Sumy regional journalistic organization increased by fourteen new members of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).
Last year, five journalists from the Sumy Region were awarded Certificates of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, three received Letters of Thanks from the chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and five – similar letters from Ukrainian parliamentarians.
Members of the board and secretariat of the regional union maintain constant contact with all primary journalistic organizations and all newsrooms of local mass media from the Sumy Region. Despite all the hardships of wartime, terrible shelling, and threats from subversive groups, the media of the region hold the information front and fight for the survival of their newspapers, radio, and television companies. The regional organization of the NUJU actively cooperates and conducts joint events with the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of Sumy State University, the Sumy Press Club, the NUJU itself, and other institutions.
Important messages about the functioning of the media during the war, meetings of the heads of local publications, Foundations, grant programs, actions to support journalists, the activities of the NUJU, etc., are constantly sent to emails of all newsroom teams from the Sumy Region.
The Facebook page Sumy Journalists – https://www.facebook.com/groups/1378777195705100 – constantly posts messages about the initiatives of the NUJU, significant events in the journalistic environment and the Life of the Sumy Region, greetings from local newspapers with anniversary dates, etc.
Together with the NUJU, the Sumy Regional Universal Scientific Library, and the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of Sumy State University, the regional organization of the NUJU has launched the Language Circle [Movne Kolo] club. The main goal of the project is to motivate, interest, and help adults switch to the Ukrainian language in work, study, and communication with friends and family. During the year, fifteen meetings were held, where the participants improved their conversational skills, familiarized themselves with resources that can be used for the transition to Ukrainian, etc.
