Famous Italian journalist/author of the book The Siege: A Novel about Mariupol by Andrea Nicastro has visited the Kyiv Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).

The President of the NUJU, Sergiy Tomilenko, told his colleague from Italy about the Union‘s work and presented him with newspapers that are being revived with the help of the NUJU in the front-line and de-occupied territories.

“I am impressed by the resilience of journalists who work near the front line in wartime conditions. They are real heroes,” said Andrea Nicastro.

In his book about Mariupol, which will be presented in the capital tomorrow, the author talks about the transformation of a person in extreme conditions, showing that war can both give birth to incredible manifestations of humanity and turn into monsters those who previously seemed to be “civilized.”

Andrea Nicastro is a senior international correspondent for the most reputable Italian daily newspaper, Corriere della Sera. He worked as a military correspondent in Bosnia, Kosovo, Serbia, Haiti, Peru, Ecuador, Indonesia, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Georgia, Iran, and Ukraine.

Call the Kyiv JSC at 050 680 5204 (Illia Suzdaliev, the JSC coordinator). The Center’s address is 27A Khreshchatyk Street.
