Ukrposhta Director General Ihor Smilianskyi has responded to NUJU‘s appeal to the President regarding the critical situation with the postal delivery of the Ukrainian press.
He left his comments under a Facebook post of the President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) Union, Sergiy Tomilenko.
Ihor Smilianskyi assures that Ukrposhta is interested in increasing the circulation of periodicals and their distribution. However, they say, people do not actively subscribe to newspapers during wartime, and the quality of the content decreases. Therefore, he says, it is unprofitable for mail carriers to deliver newspapers to villages with few subscribers.
“Will Ukrposhta deliver two copies to some village and drive a car for this? No, it won’t be. This is a commercial service, and we will not operate at a loss. But 95% will be delivered on time and as planned,” Smilianskyi wrote.
In addition, Smilianskyi announced his intention to 100% digitize the mail carrier’s work, including the subscription, so he said, “there will be strict implementation control.”
The head of Ukrposhta assures that he is ready to hear constructive comments that are economically justified.
The NUJU will make every effort to create a platform for dialogue between journalists and Ukrposhta.
