The President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), Sergiy Tomilenko, met with the parents of the Hero of Ukraine, Taras Matviyiv, a journalist who gave his life in 2020, defending the Motherland in the russian-Ukrainian war, while visiting the Lviv Region yesterday.
“Valentyna and Taras Matviyiv carefully preserve the memory of their son and organize his books,” the NUJU President noted. “Their devotion and love are striking to the depths of the soul.”
In his Facebook post, Sergiy Tomilenko emphasized that it is fundamentally important for him to visit colleagues not only in regional centers but also in small towns – where real Ukrainian journalism is created.
“In Zhydachiv, I visited the newsroom of the local newspaper Novyi Chas, where I met with its director, Andrii Danylets, a man completely devoted to the newspaper business,” he said. “Together with the head of the Lviv Regional Union of Journalists, Yaroslav Klymovych, executive secretary Olha Feilo, and member of the Secretariat, Mykhailo Khvoinytskyi, we also met with the mayor, Volodymyr Levko, who emphasized the importance of local media for the community. It was a particular joy to visit the ZhydachivFM radio studio!”
Sergiy Tomilenko also visited the museum of Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky, another reminder of Ukraine’s rich historical heritage.
The NUJU continues to relentlessly lobby for a state policy of supporting local media. “The mission of the Union is to help real, responsible journalists who make an invaluable contribution to the formation of our information space every day. Journalists are important!” Sergiy Tomilenko emphasized.
