The coordinator of the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC), Viktoriya Plakhta, and the Center’s assistant, Bohdana Zasidko, at the invitation of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of King Danylo University, took part in a working meeting to discuss the new educational bachelor’s program Journalism and Digital Communications. It was also attended by teachers of the department, representatives of leading media outlets of the Carpathian region, and stakeholders. The co-founder of The Ukrainian Media and editor-in-chief of Reporters magazine, Maria Paplauskaite, and the director of the social media and digital content department of Public Broadcasting, Oleksandra Zakharchenko, joined the discussion online.

“Over the period of its activity, the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC has become, in particular, a good educational platform for media students. Within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Center and the University, we periodically conduct training courses and thematic events for future journalists on the basis of the Center, aimed at students acquiring professional skills. It is gratifying to note that the staff of the profile department of King Danylo University is actively working on training highly qualified specialists in the field of journalism and is currently implementing a new educational program. Good luck to colleagues and inspiration in your work!” said Viktoriya Plakhta during the meeting.

The guarantor of the program is Khrystyna Kukharuk, a teacher in the same department. Future first-year students will study the latest trends and processes in demand by the media market for the production and functioning of high-quality media content in Ukraine and the world. After completing their studies, graduates will be able to work independently in media newsrooms, public relations departments, news agencies, TV and radio studios, or work freelance.

The participants in the working meeting, in particular, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC, the head of the news newsroom of the regional television Halychyna, Liliya Bodnarchuk, and the representative of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting in the region Ihor Maslov, during the discussion paid particular attention to the issues of media literacy, professional ethics, and the base of practices. The developers of the educational program were suggested, in particular, to introduce the study of the Law of Ukraine On Media and the Code of Ukrainian Journalist’s Ethics as a separate module.
